Dishonest money dwindles away,
but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow.Proverbs 13:11 from New International Version
I am not sure that dishonest is the best term, might be a translation thing, one version says “easy come easy go” another “fraud” and another “get-rich-quick schemes“. The point as I see it is that if money comes to you suddenly, or unexpectedly then it will most likely go away, yet if you have built assets, or a system over time, it will continue to grow.
Part of desiring something is that you desire it now, today, ASAP, yet if that desire is for financial stability, no matter how much money you suddenly have, if you don’t know how to maintain or grow it, you can cause it to dwindle away, or disappear like a puff of smoke.
This idea of growing, or building over time apply to more then just finances, it applies to each area of your life; every relationship, your physical, mental & spiritual aspects, and personal finances all work similarly in that they take work & can both grow or shrink, but maintenance is required.
If more people understood and would defer some pleasure or desires today in order to grow. Say take a smaller salary, or not book 100% of the billable hours, or take on as many clients as they could handle today, but rather built something that would outlast them, or is not dependent on them, then we would have a much better society.
