~ live and afterwords ~
This morning I got up and had breakfast with my wife and Cliff, who drove in and stayed the night with us last night. Then Cliff and I headed out for PodCampNashville.
What is PodCamp Nashville?
A Podcamp is an unconferance focused on new media, like podcasting, blogging, etc. You can basically have a PodCamp wherever you want, but there are some rules. One of the rules that is in place during the unconferance is that you vote with your feet. If you are not thrilled with a session, leave! Go find something that better serves you.
The Nashville one this year has several sessions at one time, a room for impromptu sessions, tables for discussions, and even a beer garden.
Some of the best points
Here are some of the best points & I’ll add later today or tomorrow.
- from Cliff – find your passion and work on improving it
- because of something Cliff said & I had been thinking, I will probably add back some comment options here in the near future.
- retweetbot.com – this is a cool system that I could see used with any public gathering
- learned you need to keep your data shorter if you have a long twitter account (like twitter.com/jonathannation ) because retweetbot adds it in, or let the stuff at the end be worth cutting out (no links at the end)
- Jared presented these as the great uses for new media: cost savings; public relations; competitive intelligence; service recovery; brand equity; product development
- this conference is working with no lunch break – people just have to choose
- from Aimee – who are you really trying to reach? Think about it.
- also from Aimee – Generally your own qualified leads is the best value & new/social media can be great at that, if you use it right
- from Carter – “Podcasting is not a flotation device” [for your business]
- Roshun shared with me this towerD game … I am not sure if I should thank him or be angry with him can cast him out for this deal that consumed so much time.
::: Update & Addition on March 9th :::
I just now added a couple images I captured at the event.
After the PodCampNashville was over, many of us went to the post-camp social that was good and fun. Then a smaller group went to Sitar Indian Restaurant for dinner. Those two times, really the one on one & small group conversations were the biggest highlight of the day.
If you are looking at going to a PodCamp, or another conference, and want one piece of advice:
Make sure you do any post event party, or meal that you can.
