This is the first real painting that I remember ever doing. As a part of a small group of people interested in arts, we decided to sit around and paint one day.
This was the image that I could not get out of my head. I love sailing, and post on sailing related stuff many times.
I can see issues in it, both in the techniques I used and the proportions of some stuff, but here are things I am happy with:
- the development of colors – lots of parts are due to a mixture of the colors
- the sail – might seem funny, but in reality of the parts of boat/person, it is the most like what I wanted
- the wind & water – I think I got that correct, the waves are pointing at the sail & you can see the boat cutting through the water
- the angle of the boat – the slight hiking out of the boat works for me
Going into this night, my wife encouraged me to go more abstract. I am glad I did not try to be more detailed, especially since we put a time limit and I could not paint, wait a few days, then go paint more over it.
During the night I also learned more about painting and some ideas of how I could do a better job next time.
