I really enjoyed working on Starting Cube episode 4.
In it I shared the beginning of one of my favorite books: Good To Great by Jim Collins
A book that was written after 5 years of exploring if a group of people (a business in this case) could go from bumping along and being good to great, or absolutely fabulous, with sustained results.
The simple answer is it can be done.
However, the book starts off with an explanation as to why we do not see so much great in our lives, our churches, our families, our communities, governments and businesses.

When I was working on the artwork for this episode, I thought of one trip I took a few years ago to the northwest corner of Wyoming, most know of Yellowstone Park, but it was a different part of the trip in the Grand Tetons Park that I was reminded of.
That morning we road a little boat across Jenny Lake.
It was a nice, wet, and chilly ride.
Once we reached the mountain side of the lake we began a short hike up to Inspiration Point, roughly 400 foot above the valley floor with a good view:
This is how high most people reach. From this point you look like you are on the top of the world. It’s an accomplishment & really is breathtaking.
Then you might turn around and see what is behind you:
Think what the view would be from up there.
We hiked back down, and instead of riding the boat back across the lake we had planned on hiking back to the car.
Later, I looked through my pictures and realized something about the pix I captured of the mountains & Inspiration Point.
You will see two arrows in the banner:
- the lowest arrow – points to about where Inspiration point is
- the higher arrow – the highest in that area
It should not take away from our accomplishment, experience, or the joy we had, but the understanding that there are still mountains to climb and settling or being proud based on what you have done can cause you to miss out.
on the flip side
Just because we have never reached that upper point, does not mean we will never … If the party I was traveling with that day and I decided that our goal was to reach one of the peaks in the Grand Tetons, then I know we can, or at least we will make it past Inspiration Point.
I hope you enjoyed episode 4 of Starting Cube – The Good View & share your thoughts in the Comments on that post, or on your site & then post a link to your thoughts there.
